I need to start with the disclaimer that this “podcast” is not, in fact, a podcast at all, but a pared down re-recording of the radio show, Wordplay, in conversation with the generous and amazing Lockie Hunter. I met Lockie for our interview on the afternoon of March 1, 2026 at the Asheville FM 103.3 radio station in West Asheville, and immediately felt I could talk with her forever. I have never felt as truly understood, appreciated, and celebrated in an interview as I felt with Lockie who is both a creative “kindred spirit” and a beautiful human. Because she was so honoring of my work, I want to take a moment to honor her.
In addition to being the co-producer of Wordplay Radio, she is also a board member of the Asheville Music School, a co-curator of Juniper Bends Reading Series, and a seasoned creative writing teacher and published author. You can explore some of her powerful writing on her website.
The reason I am re-posting our conversation here is because I wasn’t able to get a link to show itself (it is archived as an enormous mp3 file) and didn’t know how to share it without re-recording it. While sound quality isn’t perfect (you may need to turn up the volume and may hear birds singing in the background!), the upside is that I was able to edit out the music breaks, thus bringing the total runtime down from an hour to 39 minutes.
